If you’ve called the Long Island sales department at Fire-End in the last 25 years, you’ve probably gotten John O’Brien on the phone. John has been part of the Fire-End team since 1994, and he doesn’t see that changing anytime soon. But who is John O’Brien? We did an interview to learn more about the man behind the fire helmet.
Humble Beginnings
A firefighter by trade long before joining the Fire-End family, John knew the moment he joined the team that he would be there for the long haul. Having firefighting experience gave him the advantage of understanding exactly what firefighters want and need to stay safe out in the field. When asked why he joined the Fire-End team, John simply responded: “it’s a great family-owned company, and they treat their employees extremely well.” Who wouldn’t want to work in an atmosphere like that?

To get the inside scoop on what keeps fire prevention so near and dear to his heart, we asked John a couple of more serious questions. Q: What’s your favorite Fire-End product to sell? A:LION turnout gear. It’s the most innovative gear on the market, and LION has a vested interest in what the best materials are to protect us going into a fire. It improves how we’re able to fight fires. Q: If you could meet anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be and why? A: Chief Edward Croker, the iconic fire chief in New York and founder of Fire-End. He started the company in 1911 after retiring as chief of the fire department and made a lot of changes in fire equipment and protection. “When a man becomes a fireman, his greatest act of bravery has been accomplished. What he does after that is all in the line of work.” – Chief Croker Be sure to give John a call for your fire protection needs!
